Incoming Student Health Education Course on Social Media and Stress
By Sydney Bonds
Welcome Retrievers!
We are excited to have you join our UMBC Community! As you prepare for this new and exciting transition to UMBC, first year and transfer students are required to complete the online health education and promotion module, ‘Stress and Social Media Smart’.

‘Social Media Smart’ is an intervention designed to provide full health education on stress and social media. The intervention is a series of interactive modules required by UMBC students to complete that reveal the hidden risks of social media use, especially when combined with stress, made relevant to UMBC students. These modules will be similar to the required ‘Alcohol-wise’ coursework that all new UMBC students must complete. Following completion, students will have learned of social media risks, signs of social media addiction, adequate methods to limit social media use and on-campus resources for students seeking help with social media related issues.

First year and transfer students must complete this coursework, along with UMBC’s Alcohol Wise course by August 16th. Students who fail to complete coursework by this deadline will have a registration hold added to their accounts until coursework is completed.
The course will open on July 5th and is due by August 16th.
Let’s get ‘Smart’ together!
